PURPOSE:To obtain the titled fibers having high commodity value, by feeding a fiber-forming thermoplastic polymer composition containing a polyoxyalkylene glycol to a spinneret having specific spinning holes and melt spinning the composition at a shear rate within a specific range. CONSTITUTION:A fiber-forming thermoplastic polymer composition containing >=0.5wt% polyoxyalkylene glycol (derivative) in a polyester or polyamide, etc., is fed to a spinneret equipped with spinning holes having <0.2mm<2> opening area of each spinning hole. In the process, the shear rate (gammaw) of the above- mentioned polymer composition melt extruded in contact with the wall surface of each hole of the spinneret is sent under condition of the formula to carry out the melt spinning. Thereby the aimed fibers having <=1.0 denier ultrafine size without problems in practical use are obtained with good operability.
