PURPOSE:To grind a work with a prescribed working precision independently of the abrasion of a plug gauge by installing a work dimension measuring device for measuring the dimension of a work after working and a working time adjusting means and continuing the working during the calculated time after the plug gauge is inserted into the next work. CONSTITUTION:After the inner surface of a work 2 is ground to the dimension of a plug gauge 1, and said gauge 1 is fitted into the work 2, the work 2 is delivered. The inside diameter of the work 2 is measured by a working dimension measuring device 3, and the abrasion quantity of the plug gauge 1 is input into a working time adjusting means 4. When the plug gauge 1 is worn out and the above-described measurement value becomes less than a prescribed dimension, the additional working time after the gauge 1 is fitted into the work 2 is calculated and memorized by the working time adjusting means 4. In the grinding for the next work, the adjusting means 4 instructs the additional work for the calculated working time after the gauge 1 is fitted into the work. Therefore, the grinding shortage due to the abrasion of the plug gauge 1 is corrected.
