METHOD FOR DECOMPOSING OXALIC ACID AND/OR OXALIC ACID ION

PURPOSE:To efficiently treat a waste liquid, by heating a solution containing an oxalic acid ion in such a state that nitric acid and formic acid or sucrose are allowed to coexist in said solution. CONSTITUTION:In decomposing oxalic acid and/or an oxalic acid ion, about 0.7M or more on the basis of oxalic acid of nitric acid and about 1.8M or more of formic acid or sucrose are allowed to coexist in a solution containing about 0.1M of oxalic acid under heating. By this method, the reaction intermediate formed by the reaction of nitric acid and formic acid or sucrose facilitates the decomposition of oxalic acid and the oxalic acid ion.
