PURPOSE:To uniformize moisture-content of coke and to impart excellent industrial effect to the coke, by controlling water-spraying period according to surface temperature of red-hot coke pushed out of a carbonization chamber. CONSTITUTION:Surface temperatures of red-hot coke 3 pushed out of a carbonization chamber 1 are measured at plural positions having different heights in the carbonization chamber with thermometers 6a, 6b having different heights and placed at plural positions on a side wall of at least one cage of a coke guide truck 5. The water-spraying period is controlled according to the average value of the measured temperatures to obtain quenched coke having prescribed moisture content.
