PURPOSE:To obtain the titled novel polymer capable of melt forming, with both high thermal stability and fluidity, suitable for films, fibers, laminates, coatings, etc., by copolymerization, in specified proportion, between specific acid component and two or more diamine components. CONSTITUTION:(A) An aromatic diacarboxylic acid dichloride with a molar ratio of the m-phenylene bond to p-phenylene bond regulated to 30-100/70-0 representing structural unit of formula I (R1 is 1-4C alkyl; a is 0-4) is dis solved in, e.g. an organic polar solvent (e.g. N-methylpyrrolidone); following that, (B) pref. 0.9-1.1mol per mole of the component A, of a mixed diamine made up of (i) 2-98mol% of an aromatic diamine representing structural unit of formula II (n is 0 or 1) and (ii) 98-2mol% of a second aromatic diamine representing structural unit of formula III (X is O, S, etc.) is added to perform polymerization at -20-80 deg.C, thus obtaining the objective polymer with a loga rithmic viscosity >=0.25.
