PURPOSE:To improve the ratio of an actual cutting time to a total cutting time for improving machining efficiency by digitizing air cut portions other than the copy mode out of copy sequences as a rapid feed instruction. CONSTITUTION:In surface one way copying, when copying reaches a limit LYP1 on the plus side of the Y axis, a stylus moves to a limit LZP3 on the plus side of the Z axis at a rapid speed and, in addition, to a limit LYN2 on the minus side of the axis. And then after moving to the approach limit LRA4 of the Z axis, it is brought into contact with a copying model 1 at a set up approaching speed and performs copying motion. And in an actual digitizing, presetting of the location of each limit in a controlling circuit allows the start and end of air cut portions A-C to be readily marked by watching the current location of each part of a machine. Machining efficiency can, thus, be improved.
