PURPOSE:To have sure separation by inserting a detent tool for separation having a sharp tip between the leading IC package and the next one, and thereby pushing back the subsequent ICs oppositely to the transport direction. CONSTITUTION:A stopper pin 3 is lifted to stop the leading IC 2a from gliding down, and in this condition a separator pawl 5 is inserted between the leading IC package 2a-1 and the next 2b-1, as shown by the arrow D. Then the separator pawl 5 is driven in the direction of retraction. The next IC 2b pushes back the following ICs 2c and they move oppositely to the transport direction to make separation from the leading IC 2a. If the stopper pin 3 is sunk to release brakes to the leading IC 2a after retraction of the separator pawl 5, the leading IC 2a will glide down. The stopper pin 3 is lifted after the leading IC 2a has moved to the next process, and the separator pawl 5 is lifted.
