PURPOSE:To aim at enhancing the operation rate of a reversing device, by detecting a skew of a paper sheet on a forward conveying path into which paper sheets are fed, and by moving passage stopping members arranged on both sides of the device in accordance with the data of detection. CONSTITUTION:Paper sheets which are held between conveyor belts 17, 18 are conveyed in the direction of the arrow, and face-up and -down sheets are distributed by a distributing gate 2. When a skew of a paper sheet is detected by a skew detecting sensor 1, either one of solenoids 141, 142 on the side corresponding to one side of the paper sheet which is advanced from the other, is turned on so that a passage stopping stopper 131 or 132 is rotated about a fulcrum point 151 or 152 as a rotating center. Further, during reversing of the paper sheet 21, it is possible to prevent the sheet 21 impining upon the passage stopping stopper 131 or 132 so that it is hindered from being fed in, resulting in occurrence of a paper jam, and therefore, to avoid stopping the reversing device due to paper jams or the like, thereby it is possible to enhance the operation rate of the reversing device.
