PURPOSE:To improve battery performance by containing a specified amount of In, Pb, and Al, and a specified total amount of at least one selected from Tl, Sn, Cd, and Ga, and from Li, Na, K, Rb, and Se, and from Ni, Co, and Te in zinc. CONSTITUTION:0.001-0.5wt% In, 0.005-0.5wt% Pb, 0.005-0.5wt% Al, 0.005- 0.5wt% at least one selected from Tl, Sn, Cd, and Ga, and 0.0001-0.5wt% at least one selected from Li, Na, K, Rb, and Se, and 0.005-0.5wt% at least one selected from Ni, Co, and Te are added to melted pure zinc to obtain a zinc alloy. An alkaline manganese battery is formed by using this zinc alloy as a negative active material. This battery is composed of a composite electrode 2, a negative electrode 3, a separator 4, and a negative current collector 7 and others, retards the evolution of hydrogen gas and improved discharge perfor mance. |
