PURPOSE:To make it possible to simultaneously measure the thrust clearances of the gear shafts of a gear meshing unit, by providing driver means and power sbsorbing means to at least two gear shafts to which the rotation due to the meshing of helical gears is transmitted. CONSTITUTION:When a drive gear shaft 3 is driven by a driving motor 22, rotation is transmitted to a counter shaft 5 through helical gears 11, 12. Whereupon, the helical gears 16-18 fixed to the shaft 5 rotate and one selected gear among said gears 16-18 rotates the corresponding one gear of helical gears 13-15 to transmit rotation to a main gear shaft 4. Because a power absorbing motor 25 is connected to the shaft 4 and acts as load, propelling force is transmitted to respective gear shafts. Then, the rotation of the motor 22 is accelerated and decelerated to allow the shafts 3-5 to move by thrust clearance to the axial direction by propelling force and some outer rings of tapered roller bearings 6-10 are pushed and stop positions are detected by linear scale sensors 30-32 and operated by an electronic micrometer 28 to simultaneously detect the thrust clearances of the shafts 3-5.
