PURPOSE:To lock or unlock a carriage to or from a prescribed position by small power consumption, and also, to prevent an off-track caused by heating, as well, by controlling the carriage to a lock state or an unlock state by a carriage lock mechanism using a permanent magnet and a self-holding type solenoid. CONSTITUTION:A rise of an output of a voltage comparator 36 triggers a monostable multivibrator 55, and for a prescribed period which is determined by a capacitor 57 and a resistance 59, this monostable multivibrator 55 outputs a signal B of a high level from a Q output terminal, a base current of a transistor 32 and a transistor 30 is made to flow, and these transistors are turned on. Therefore, a current flows to a coil 37, and a plunger 118 of a self-holding type solenoid 117 moves in the lower direction and forms a state that an engagement of a claw 121 and a carriage hook 122 is released. When the high level signal B comes not to be outputted from the Q output terminal of the monostable multivibrator 55 after a prescribed time, the transistors 32, 30 go to an off-state, and the current of the coil 37 comes not to flow.
