PURPOSE:To provide a titled element which has a high response rate, which obviates contamination of electrodes, and which has excellent resistance to liquid leakage and durability by interposing a gel-like electrolyte layer between a transparent electrode plate formed with a specific thin org. conductive film layer on the electrolyte side surface and counter electrode plate. CONSTITUTION:This element has the structure interposed with the gel-like electrolyte layer 13 between the transparent electrode plate 11 provided by electrolytic polymn. with the thin org. conductive film layer 12 having a desired shape which can be changed to many colors by the impression of a voltage thereto on the electrolyte side surface and the counter electrode plate 14. For example, an ITO glass electrode plate or the like is adequately used as the transparent electrode plate 11 to form the thin org. conductive film layer 12. The film layer which can be changed to many colors by the impression of the voltage thereto is preferably used as the thin org. conductive film layer 12 to be provided on the electrolyte side surface of such transparent electrode plate 11. The element which can make multi-color display, has a color memory characteristic, has a high response speed, excels in the resistance to liquid leakage and durability and is simple in the structure is thereby easily produced.
