PURPOSE:To uniformly orient a ferroelectric liquid crystal, to make high-speed response and to provide a memory characteristic by providing a high-polymer film which is branched in a fluoroalkyl chain and is subjected to an orientation treatment on the surface of one substrate in contact with the liquid crystal and providing a specific org. high-polymer film on the surface of the other substrate in contact with the liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:The high-polymer film 4 which is branched in the fluoroalkyl chain is used as the film making spontaneous polarization on the one substrate 1 to sandwich the ferroelectric liquid crystal after the surface thereof is subjected to the orientation treatment. The org. high-polymer film 5 which is made of a single resin selected from a polyamide resin, polyimide resin, polyamide imide resin and PVA or the combination thereof is used as the uniaxially oriented film on the other substrate 2 without subjecting the film to the orientation treatment. A uniform monodomain having the good affinity as the liquid crystal is thus obtd. and the liquid crystal cell exhibits excellent characteristics in both responsiveness and memory characteristic. |
