PURPOSE:To change the display position of a character pattern with a small capacity of a memory by controlling the display position of the character pattern in accordance with a arithmetic processing based on the display reference position information, display position modifying information and expanding reducing information. CONSTITUTION:The character pattern and the display position modifying information corresponding to the character code given from an input terminal 1 are read from a pattern memory 2, and respectively inputted to an expanding reducing processing part 7 and a display position control part 8. The display position control part 8 calculates the necessary display position of the character pattern and outputs it to a display part 9 based on the character pattern expanding reducing information from an input terminal 3, the character pattern display reference position information and the display position modifying information. On the other hand, the expanding reducing processing part 7 outputs the character pattern to the display part 9 by the instruction from the display position control part 8 after the necessary expanding reducing processing is executed in accordance with the character pattern expanding reducing information from the input terminal 3.
