PURPOSE:To buffer the energy to be returned from a head, and also, to hold its position in a correct scanning initial position by providing an air damper which is connected to a head or a member formed as one body with said head, and an electromagnetic mechanism for holding the head in the scanning initial position for a prescribed time. CONSTITUTION:In case of returning a magnetic head 8, a slider 7 is slid by receiving a pressure expanding power of a spring 11, a push-back power applied to the slider 7 is transmitted to a piston 19, and the piston 19 moves so as to go into an air cylinder 18. In such a case, air flows out of a small gap between the air cylinder 18 and the piston 19, the movement of the piston 19 is suppressed, and the push-back power applied to the slider 7 is buffered. In such a way, when the magnetic head 8 has reached the scanning initial position, or by supplying power temporarily to an electromagnetic mechanism 20 immediately before said time, a magnetic plate 24 is adsorbed by a magnetic pole surface of a core 23, and at the time point when the magnetic head 8 is returned to the scanning initial position, the slider 7 is made to stand still exactly.
