PURPOSE:To miniaturize a hardware constitution by converting the color image information of (n) bit inputted from outside to encoded image information of (m) bit smaller than (n) bit, by the first converting means and performing image processing on the encoded image information of smaller number of bit. CONSTITUTION:This document image processor consists of an inputting means 1 that inputs color image data consisting of (n) bit, the first converting section 2 that converts the color image data on (n) bit to encoded image data consisting of (m) bit, an image processing means 3 including a memory that makes various image processing, the second converting section 4 that converts image processing the encoded image data of (m) bit to the color image data of (l) bit, an outputting means 5 that outputs color image data converted to (l) bit and a controlling means 6 that controls those means. Thereby, high grade and very efficient color document image processing can be realized by using the small quantity of hardware at every low cost.
