PURPOSE:To harden a crank shaft while maintaining accuracy without requiring leveling after hardening by hardening the journal parts of the shaft and the fillet parts thereof and subjecting the center journal to roll leveling then hardening the pin parts and the fillet parts thereof while the journal parts are held by the pressing load. CONSTITUTION:The journal pats 101, 103, 105, 107, 109 of the crank shaft 1 and the respective fillet parts thereof are subjected to high-frequency hardening. The centers at both ends in the axial direction of the shaft 1 a supported at the center of a leveling roll device 2 and the lower half two points of the center jouranl 105 are supported by lower rolls 204, 205, then the vertex is pressed by the upper roll 203. The shaft 1 is rotated and leveled. The pin parts 102, 104, 106, 108 and the respective fillet parts thereof are thereafter subjected to high-frequency heating to a hardening temp. The centeral part of both ends of the shaft is supported at the center and all the journal parts are pressed and held by a clamping device 3. Cooling water is thereupon injected from cooling water nozzles to the respective pin parts to harden said parts.
