PURPOSE:To speedily and easily discriminate between an affected part and normal parts by providing a means which irradiates a body to be observed with plural infrared rays which differ in wavelength range in time series, and an optical system and a solid-state image pickup device. CONSTITUTION:The rays of light in the infrared ray range from a light source 21 which have different wavelength ranges are incident on a photoconductor 1 through a rotary filter 22 to illuminate the object of observation of a patient at the tip part of an endoscope and then an image signal is sent to a switching circuit 28 through the solid-state image pickup device. Light beams reflected by a half-mirror 23, on the other hand, are also sent to the circuit 28 through a light receiving element 24. The filter 22 has its wavelength range of 800-1,100nm divided into sections 40-42 and a transmission wavelength range which varies at its angle of rotation is detected; and the three primary colors which are transmitted are mixed again to display an image on a monitor TV 34. The normal parts and abnormal part of the patient differ in the reflection factor of wavelength light, so they are discriminated easily and speedily on the monitor TV.
