NEW MATERIAL:Compounds of formula I, wherein R1 is (substd)phenylene. USE:Azo pigments which have excellent resistance to solvents, light, heat, water, acids and alkalis and color materials bluish red, reddish purple or red with a remarkably high coloring power. PREPARATION:A compd. of formula II or its functional derivative (A) obtd. by coupling 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid with a diazonium salt of 3,5- dichloroaniline is reacted with a compd. (B) of formula III in an inert solvent, e.g., (chloro)benzene, in the presence of, optionally, halogenating agent such as phosphorus oxychloride.
