PURPOSE:To harden a crank shaft having hardened journal parts and fillet parts while maintaining accuracy without requiring leveling after hardening by applying specific load and rotation to said crank shaft and a hardening the pin parts and fillet parts thereof. CONSTITUTION:The journal parts 101. 103, 105, 107, 109 of the crank shaft 1 are formed on the same axial line and the journal parts and the respective fillet parts thereof are subjected to high-frequency hardening. The centers at both ends 110, 111 in the axial direction of the shaft 1 are supported by clampers 201, 202 and the sahft 1 is pressed axially with the prescribed load by the clamper 202. The shaft 1 is rotationally driven by the clamper 201. The load is further intermittently applied around the center journal 105 of the shaft 10 by pressing blacks 204, 205 to press and hold the journal. The pin parts 102, 104, 106, 108 and the respective fillet parts in this state are subjected to high-frequency hardening.
