PURPOSE:To increase a circumferential velocity at the inlet of a runner impeller, by a method wherein an additional vane is situated in a space between a runner vane and a guide vane located up a line from the runner vane. CONSTITUTION:In a Francis water turbine,an additional vane 2 is situated in a space between a runner vane 1, being an existing runner, and a guide vane 3. The water turbine performs high head operation, the circumferential velocity of a runner matching a high head is required, but mounting of the additional vane 2 results in an increase in the size of the inlet of a runner, and with the increase in the size of the inlet of the runner, a circumferential velocity at an inlet is also increased. This constitution enables absorption of an increase in a velocity of flow at the outlet of the guide vane in high head operation.
