<p>PURPOSE:To prevent the clogging of an adsorption agent in an exhaust gas passage by providing a particulate trap in the upstream of the adsorption agent and letting exhaust gases flow toward said trap whenever exhaust gases are made to run. CONSTITUTION:An adsorption agent 13 is provided in the bypass passage 10 of an exhaust passage 7 and a particulate trap 11 is fitted in a bypass passage 9 in the upstream thereof. Opening and closing control valves 16 and 15 are arranged at the inlets 26 and 25 of the bypass passages 10 and 9. And a control device 23 is inputted with a signal from an exhaust gas temperature detector 3 and the valves 16 and 15 are controlled depending upon exhaust gas temperature. When exhaust gases are made to flow toward the adsorption agent 13 with the control valve 16 opened, however, another control valve 15 is always opened for letting exhaust gases flow to the particulate trap 11, thereby preventing the adsorption agent 13 from being clogged with the fine particles of exhaust gases.</p> |
