The present invention relates to a method for transferring and stacking flat articles at the output of workstations, as well as systems for implementing the method. It will be especially applicable for stacking various flat articles, especially, but not exclusively, articles which are soft and permeable in nature, as is the case in the clothing and textile manufacture field. According to the invention, a stack 4 of uniform, non-shapeless and stable appearance is formed from flat articles 2 which are positioned and supplied one by one by the following steps: - the articles 2 are brought in succession, one by one, flat, in a non-folded manner, and delivered and positioned on prior stacking means 3 disposed above the stack 4 formation zone; - the prior stacking means 3 are progressively retracted, without relative movement between the article 5 resting thereon and the stack 4 and without slippage between the prior means 3 and the article 5 in order to prevent the entrainment of the article 5 and to allow it to be progressively deposited, by gravity, so as to form the stack 4. <IMAGE>
