PURPOSE:To obtain a compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for light stabilizers of high polymeric materials and medicines in good yield in a short time, by a method for reacting acetone pretreated with a peroxide or acidic condensate of acetone with ammonia, etc. CONSTITUTION:Acetone or an acidic condensate thereof is reacted with ammo nia or 2,2,4,4,6-pentamethyl-2,3,4,5-tetrahydropyrimidine is used to give the aimed substance. In the process, the above-mentioned starting material is pretreated with a peroxide for use. The treatment is carried out by reacting the starting substance with hydrogen peroxide at ordinary temperature - 50 deg.C or using an organic peroxide in a solvent, e.g. water or acetic acid, etc., at ordinary temperature. After the treatment, a catalyst, e.g. MgCl2, etc., is added to carry out the reaction at -10-+100 deg.C for 1-4 hr to afford the aimed substance.
