The apparatus comprises a spreading mandrel (1) and driven rollers (7) for transporting a tube portion to a product to be wrapped. The mandrel has a projection (13) at its discharge end and additional driving rollers (14) for driving the tube portion after it has been cut by a cutting device (11), situated between mandrel (1) and projection (13). Thereby the wrapping and product conveying velocity may be increased.
