In the case of a device for the releasable connection of a shoe to a pedal (1, 2) of a pedal cycle, a first jaw (3) which is non-movable relative to the pedal (1, 2) is able positively to embrace a connecting element (4) provided on the shoe. A second jaw (6) is connected to the pedal (1, 2) in a manner such that it can move relative to the first jaw (3) for the purpose of changing the spacing between a release position and a retaining position and in the retaining position embraces the connecting element (4) in the opposite direction. This second jaw (6) has a driver (8) against which the shoe comes to rest so that the second jaw (6) moves from the release position into the retaining position. Both jaws (3, 6) are allocated a locking device (10) which locks the two jaws in the retaining position in a manner such that they can be released. <IMAGE>
