The fitting serves preferably for sliding doors which are made entirely of glass and whose large-surface-area glass leaves have at least top and/or bottom border profiles (9, 10). The special feature of the invention lies, in particular, in the fact that the border profiles (9, 10) are fixedly clamped on the borders of the glass panels of each leaf by means of relatively thin-walled, elastically expandable legs (19, 49). In the non-stressed state, the legs are aligned slightly obliquely with respect to each other and, in the stressed state, they are aligned approximately parallel to each other. If appropriate, thin inserts (22) consisting of rigid rubber or the like are inserted between the legs (19, 49) and the glass panel (8) as a means for protecting against scratching or for compensating for different glass widths. <IMAGE>
