A manual implement for cleaning, melting and widening joints or cracks in asphalt road pavings consists of a trolley 1, to which there is attached a casing 2 which is open towards the atmosphere and has a tapered outlet opening 6 on the side of the road paving. Arranged in front of the inlet opening 5 to the casing 2 is an atmospheric burner 7, the flames of which are directed on to a pipe spiral 10 guided through the casing 2, to which compressed air is supplied. The pipe spiral 10 is taken up to the vicinity of the tapered outlet opening 6 of the casing 2 with the outlet opening 12 of its rectilinearly extending endpiece 11, so that separate hot-air outlets for the compressed air and the gas/fresh-air mixture are provided. During operation of the implement, the outflowing thin compressed-air hot jet is directed directly on to the joint to be repaired, blows impurities out of the latter and causes the bitumen in the joint to melt. At the same time, the outflowing thin compressed-air hot jet also entrains, however, a sufficient amount of the hot gas/fresh-air mixture from the casing 2, and is therefore surrounded by a hot annular jet of low flow rate which ensures the melting-off of the two joint edges in the road paving.
