The invention relates to a process for cleaning the inside of barrels, a cleaning head being used to introduce a cleaning liquid and a gaseous or vaporous pressure medium into the respective barrel with the barrel fitting facing downwards. Before entering the barrel, the cleaning liquid is mixed with the gaseous or vaporous pressure medium. The mixture is flushed into the barrel via the opened gas valve. The flushing operation is assisted by blowing the pressure medium into the cleaning liquid in the direction of flushing in. After the flushing operation, the cleaning liquid is sucked out of the barrel at an accelerated rate. <IMAGE>
