PURPOSE:To obtain a picture with less moire and a high resolution by reading out outputs from a solid state image pickup element in a focused state and a slightly out of focus and obtaining a luminance signal from the former state and a chrominance component from the latter. CONSTITUTION:First, a control circuit 7 forms a focused image on a CCD 5 and releases a shutter 2. The luminance signal is obtained from the output signal through a process circuit 6 and an Y signal processing circuit 9, and simultaneously it is accumulated in a picture memory 10 during only one vertical scan period. Then the CCD 5 is moved back and forth to attain out of focus, and again the shutter 2 is released. The chrominance component is obtained from the output signal through the process circuit 6 and an RB signal processing circuit 8. If R-Y/B-Y signal processing circuit 11 synthesizes and encodes the signals obtained in such a way to use it for a television signal, a color-moire- free picture with a high brightness and a high resolution can be obtained.
