In the case of particle filters, produced from wound bodies, for exhaust gases, the combination of different fibres is proposed. The essential filter action is undertaken by a base fibre (11, 12) of very thin elemental filaments (14), which can be composed of ceramics, glass etc., while metal fibres, in particular steel fibres (13), are provided in and/or around the wound body, which metal fibres support the filter action and simultaneously give the required strength of the wound body (10). <IMAGE>
