PURPOSE:To stop a carrier at a prescribed position with high accuracy by counting the pulses for stop control of the carrier after converting these pulses into the pulse signals according to the presence or absence of the reflected light sent from a tape set on the carrier drive path. CONSTITUTION:A light transmission/reception type detector 2 is attached to the lower part of a carrier 1. While a tape 7 containing the reflection parts 5 and non-reflection parts 6 alternately is provided on a drive path surface 3 in a prescribed length range (e) of the forward side set from a stop position 4. Thus a drive command delivered from a drive control part is sent to a drive motor via a drive circuit. Thus the carrier 1 is driven. Furthermore the reflected light of the tape 7 is supplied to a counter circuit by the detector 2 in the form of pulse signals. When the count value of these pulse signals reaches a prescribed level, a stop command is delivered to a drive circuit to stop the drive of the carrier 1.
