PURPOSE:To perform high-precision printing if paste has the nature of a non- Newtonian fluid by inserting paste right before squeegee directly or indirectly into a viscosity sensor and measuring the viscosity of paste which is just about to be applied to the surface of a substrate using the viscosity sensor. CONSTITUTION:A viscosity sensor 10 is arranged right in front of a squeegee 4 or a member near the squeegee 4, e.g. a support member 5, a fixing member 6 or a moving stand 7 or a paste return board. To enable paste to ascend to the viscosity sensor 10 even through a clearance 27 of a microgap, a spiral groove 31 is formed axially along a surface opposed to the clearance 27 of a rotary cylindrical body 18, and a spiral groove 32 on the external circumference of a columnar body 26. Paste 8 in the clearance 27 for paste circulation formed with the columnar body 26 is allowed to ascend by the rotation of the rotary cylindrical body 18. Thus paste 8 is so formed as to be discharged through a paste discharging hole 30.
