The invention relates to a multilayer dry analytical element for the analysis of a liquid with at least two water-permeable layers which are provided on a transparent support, where at least one of the water-permeable layers comprises a self-colouring oligosaccharide substrate which is able to dissociate into a trisaccharide, disaccharide or monosaccharide and to which p-nitrophenol is bound in the presence of amylase. The other water-permeable layer, which is provided between the water-permeable layer which contains the self-colouring oligosaccharide substrate and the support, comprises a glucosidase. The invention furthermore relates an analytical element in which one layer which contains light-reflecting or light-absorbing particles in an amount such that the optical density is at least 1.0 and not more than 2.3 is provided between the layer which contains the oligosaccharide substrate and the layer which contains the glucosidase. An alpha -glucosidase or beta -glucosidase can be used as glucosidase. The layer which contains the oligosaccharide substrate is preferably essentially glucosidase-free.
