PURPOSE:To enable widthwise positioning to be performed easily and accurately as well as simplify the whole film feeder including a positioning device by providing a takeup unit with a drive means to move the unit in a transfer film widthwise direction in accordance with the detection output of a widthwise sensor. CONSTITUTION:The whole film takeup unit 8 is suspended below a movable stand 5 and movable in right/left directions in response to the rotation of a motor 24. In the black color part 6c of a transfer film 6, a second slit 6e which is a widthwise identification marker for widthwise positioning is provided continuously in longitudinal direction. In the lower part of the movable stand 5, the second position detector 42 is installed as a widthwise sensor against a passage position for the second slit 6e. When the second slit 6e of transfer film 6 is displaced to one side of a light receiving zone 49, an output value E1 from a terminal 491 on the displacement side is increased, while an output value E2 from a terminal 492 on the opposite side is decreased. The result will be E1>E2.
