NEW MATERIAL:A terpene derivative expressed by formula I (R<1>, R<2> and R<3> are H or organic residue) or a nontoxic salt thereof. EXAMPLE:2, 4-Dimethyl-3-3-( 4-hydroxy-3-hydroxymethyl-1-butenyl )-4-(beta-D-glucop- yranosyl) oxymethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-one. USE:A treating and preventive agent for peptic ulcer. PREPARATION:For example, ethyl ether is added to a hot-water extract of cinnamon bark to carry out distribution and fractionation and a water-soluble fraction is recovered. The hot-water extract fraction is fractionated by suitably using normal phase adsorption chromatography, reversed phase chromatography and another chromatography in combination to give a compound expressed by formula II, which is then treated with glucosidase to afford the aimed com pound expressed by formula III.
