In a method of burning a viscous liquid fuel, the fuel is fed to the inlet (4) of a pipe 2 and mixed with a gas to obtain an atomized fuel, the gas being an air-steam mixture produced by mixing a superheated water steam with air. The mixture is fed from a pipe 8 to an apertured chamber (6) and into the flow of fuel to produce gas bubbles. The atomized fuel is then mixed at the outlet (5) of pipe (2) with a swirled flow of oxidant initially fed into pipe (9).
