PURPOSE:To improve an operation efficiency by a handy reader by providing a data memory part for storing temporarily read data and disposing a control switch for controlling the data stored in the data memory part in the handy reader. CONSTITUTION:As the control switch, a transmission switch 12 and a cancel switch 13 are provided in the handy reader 4. Light is irradiated by a light source part 5 from a data detection port 14, reflected light from a light source part 5 from a data detection port 14, reflected light from a bar code is read by a reading converting part 6 and the bar code is stored in the data memory part 7 as the data of an electric signal. When the data of the bar code provided on a desired goods is read by the normal operation of the handy reader 4, the data is fed to a computer 2 by the transmission switch 12 to perform a data processing. When the data of an unnecessary bar code is read by the malfunction of the handy reader 4, by pressing the cancel switch 13, erroneous data can be erased. Thereby, the control of the data such as erasing the data can be performed by the handy reader and the operation efficiency is remark ably improved.
