Pulverised fuel ash (PFA) bricks are made by semi dry pressing a dry blended, moisturised mixture of PFA, binder clay and fuel to produce green bricks, assembling the green bricks in a clamp on a refractory base, and firing to produce vitrification. The green bricks are formed with spacer elements such as nibs on a flat face thereof and the clamp base is contoured (e.g. saucer-shaped) so that the green bricks in the setting are in a predetermined spatial arrangement and are directionally inclined at the margins towards the centre of the clamp so as to provide the clamp with a tapering and "tight" profile from the base.

|
