PURPOSE:To prevent the wear and damage between a head and a magnetic tape by using a laminated ceramic drive element and a displacement enlargement device so as to control the projection of the rotary head. CONSTITUTION:The head base 2 is always drawn in the direction of arrow 20 by a spring 5, one of a laminated ceramic drive element 130 is adhered to an L shaped fixed base 20 and the other is in contact with the head base 2. In applying a voltage to the drive element 130, the drive element 130 is prolonged in the direction of arrow 16 to push the head base 2, resulting that the rotary erasure head 1 is projected from the rotary drum 50 and the head base 2 is driven against the spring 5 around the shaft 3. The drive element 130 and the head base 2 being the displacement magnifying device drive the erasure head 1 and the erasure is operated in contact with the magnetic tape carried on the peripheral of the rotary head drum 50 for the erasure head 1. When a prescribed drive voltage is not given from the drive circuit to the drive element 130, the head base 2 is turned by a spring 5 in the direction of arrow 70 to retrogress the erasure head 1.
