PROCESS FOR CONTINUOUS PURIFICATION OF HOT METAL

Continuous purificn. of molten pig iron is effected by (i) measuring the Si, S and P contents in the pig iron flowing from the blast furnace to the runner-bed; (ii) adding desulphurising agent to the pig iron in the launder, pref. as near as possible to the stream leaving the furnace; (iii) sepg. the pig iron from slag; (iv) adding a Si redn. reagent to the pig iron when its Si content is over 0.25%; (v) sepg. the pig iron from slag; and (vi) adding a dephosphorising agent to the pig iron as it pours into the torpedo ladle.
