<p>A control means for automatically controlling the charge and discharge rate of an electrical storage heater of the type, for example, which uses cheap, "off-peak" electricity to charge, and which discharges during periods when electricity is relatively expensive. The rate of discharge is controlled by way of input and output setting means, and a damper 19 pivoted on a temperature responsive control arm 21; thereby avoiding the use of complex charge sensing devices. The controller is capable of "over-riding" manual temperature settings, and is designed to operate, so that, should the heater not fully charge, it automatically discharges at a correspondingly lower rate and therefore for a longer time; and vice versa. The preferred embodiment operates by way of mechanical setting and thermostat means.
