<p>A control means for automatically controlling the charge and discharge rate of an electrical storage heater of the type, for example, which uses cheap, "off-peak" electricity to charge, and which discharges during periods when electricity is relatively expensive. The rate of discharge is controlled by way of input and output setting means, and a damper 19 pivoted on a temperature responsive control arm 21; thereby avoiding the use of complex charge sensing devices. The controller is capable of "over-riding" manual temperature settings, and is designed to operate, so that, should the heater not fully charge, it automatically discharges at a correspondingly lower rate and therefore for a longer time; and vice versa. The preferred embodiment operates by way of mechanical setting and thermostat means. Provision has also been made for an alternative more sensitive control means (see Fig 3), which has a cam at one end. <IMAGE></p> |
