PURPOSE:To make it possible to alarm a water leakage accident surely and accurately, by mounting detectors to four corners of the lower base plate of a washing machine to detect the water leakage accident and sounding the water leakage alarm buzzer mounted to the upper part of the washing machine. CONSTITUTION:An electric circuit 6 and an alarm buzzer 1 are incorporated in the upper panel 5 of a washing machine, and light emitters 3 for a light source and light receivers 4 are mounted to four corners of the lower base plate 2 of the washing machine so as to face to a floor. In a usual case, because the light of each light emitter 3 is reduced in the reflection from the surface of the floor and does not reach the buzzer 1, the resistance value of the circuit 6 is large and, because no current is supplied to a relay, the buzzer 1 emits no sound. When water leakage generates in the washing machine, water spreads over the surface of the floor, the light from each light emitter 3 is reflected from the leaked water and each light emitter 4 receives the light to lower the resistance value of the circuit 6 and the buzzer 1 begins to sound. By this method, a water leakage accident can be alarmed surely and accurately.
