PURPOSE:To reduce fog and to improve color reproductivity by incorporating a specified magenta coupler, a fading inhibitor, and a specified amount of hydroquinone derivative in a silver halide emulsion layer. CONSTITUTION:The silver halide emulsion layer contains the magenta coupler represented by formula I (Z is an N-containing hetero ring, X is H or a substituent to be released by the coupling reaction with the oxidation product of a color developing agent; and R is H or a substituent), the fading inhibitor having an oxidation reduction potential of E: 0.95V<=E<=1.50V, and represented by formula II (each of R1-R6 is H, alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, or the like), and the hydroquinone derivative represented by formula III (each of R1 and R2 is alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, or the like) in an amount of 1X10<-1>-1X10mol% of the magenta coupler, thus permitting the light fastness of the magenta coupler and color reproductivity to be enhanced, and fog to be reduced.
