This invention provides an apparatus for applying tack adhesive to a buffed tyre for retreading characterised by a adhesive applicator (32), tyre rotating device (30) for said tyre at the inner peripheral surface of the tyre and for driving the tyre to rotate it around its axis, and a spraying device (32) arranged outside the tyre for spraying adhesive over the outer peripheral surface of the tyre. The apparatus may also comprise a detector to sense the size of the tyre being treated and selection means for selecting a suitable applicator head. The invention provides for automatic spraying of tyres without the need for manual labour to handle the tyre.
