An improved dielectric wave-guide is provided wherein a metal wire antenna 5, which may include a detector diode, is inserted directly into the transmitter zone of a dielectric wave-guide so as to extend partly outwardly therefrom, and electromagnetic wave energy is thereby sent or received directly. The wire 5 may be the internal conductor of a coaxial cable.
