PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium which has good production efficiency, and excellent running durability and jitter characteristic, hardly generates chipping, etc., and decreases drop-out and deterioration in S/N characteristic by compounding a prescribed amt. of ketine black and a prescribed amt. of a prescribed fatty acid ester into a back coat layer. CONSTITUTION:A thin film layer is formed on the rear surface of a nonmagnetic film formed with a magnetic layer on the surface by coating a back coating agent compounded with 0.1-50pts.wt. ketine black per 100pts.wt. binder and compounded with 0.1-50pts.wt., per 100pts.wt. ketine black, fatty acid ester having viscous fluidity at and under an ordinary temp. and atmospheric pressure and good lubricating performance on said rear surface. The fatty acid ester is generally expressed by the formula, where R denotes Cn.H2n-1, R1-R3 denotes the acids selected from an octadecanoic acid, 12-hydroxy octadecanoic acid, and andecanoic acid.
