PURPOSE:To prevent a generator from entering an unstably operating range by limiting the stepup ratio of a chopper type switching regulator to a predetermined value corresponding to an output voltage. CONSTITUTION:The output of a generator 1 is rectified by a rectifier 2, then smoothed, and stepped up by a chopper type switching regulator (regulator) 3, and supplied through an inverter 4 to a load. The stepup ratio of the regulator 3 is determined by the ratio of ON/OFF times of a switching element 6, a pulse-width modulator 5 detects the output voltage of the regulator 3 to control the ON/OFF ratio of the element 6 to maintain it constant. The upper limit of the ON/OFF ratio is determined by deciding a voltage applied to a point (b). Accordingly, the stepup ratio of the regulator is limited to a predetermined value corresponding thereto.
