PURPOSE:To enable extremely high-density culture of animal cell over a long period, by embedding animal cells in collagen gel, suspending the gel in a culture liquid and carrying out the mass-culture of the cell. CONSTITUTION:A collagen gel containing animal cells in embedded state is put into a spinner flask together with a culture liquid and the cell is cultured by stirring the culture liquid with a stirrer, etc., to effect the suspension of the collagen gel. As an alternative method, a collagen gel embedded with animal cells is charged together with a culture liquid into a shake culture flask and the collagen gel 1 is suspended in the liquid by shaking the flask and stirring the culture liquid. There is no particular restriction in the shape of the collagen gel provided that the gel can be suspended in the liquid and the shape is e.g. particle, noodle, sheet, etc.
