PURPOSE:To compress and transmit an irregularly continuous numeric data string in nibble units by sectioning the numeric data string in nibble units into blocks successively each block to have <=4 kinds of nibble numerals, and compressing and representing a nibble sequence as a two-bit sequence in block units. CONSTITUTION:The sequence in nibble units consists of, for example, 41 nibbles and is sectioned into three blocks B1, B2, and B3 so that the kind of numerals in the respective blocks is <=4. Then, <=4 kinds of numerals are assigned to two-bit number 00B, 01B, 10B, and 11B in increasing order. For example, there are four kinds of numerals 0H, 2H, 4H, and 5H in a block B1, so bit digit parts of bits 0, 2, 4, and 5 of eight upper stage bits are set to '1' and substituted with two-bit numbers in value order. In this case, nibble numerals 0H, 2H, 4H, and 5H are compressed into 00B, 01B, 10B, and 11B respectively.
